Avangrid history in Texas and New Mexico dates back to 2009 when it built Barton Chapel, the company’s first wind farm in Texas. There are 8 Avangrid wind energy projects spread across both states, with a combined capacity of 1.9 GW of clean energy. Avangrid has more than 1.2 GW of capacity in Texas alone, making it the second largest state in Avangrid’s portfolio by capacity. These projects serve utilities and commercial & industrial customers across the region, supporting their clean energy goals.

Avangrid contributed to a number of notable firsts in the region. For example, Avangrid’s Peñascal I wind energy project, built in 2010, was the first wind farm on the Texas gulf coast. Similarly, New Mexico’s El Cabo wind farm was the largest wind energy project in the state when it came online in 2017.
