Avangrid Companies in New York, Connecticut, and Maine Restore Power Following Winter Storm

Long-duration winter storm brought snow, ice, and strong winds to the northeast United States, impacting thousands

ORANGE, Conn. — February 18, 2025 — Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, and its subsidiaries in New York, Connecticut, and Maine worked to restore power to roughly 100,000 customers after a long-duration winter storm impacted the northeast United States over the weekend. Crews in all three states worked through freezing temperatures, strong winds, and icy conditions to ensure fast and safe power restoration for the thousands of residential customers and businesses impacted by the storm.

“Whether our customers are working from home, utilizing heat pumps, or operating a business, they depend on the electricity we deliver now more than ever before,” said Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra. “Fast, safe, and efficient power restoration remains our top priority, and I’m incredibly proud of the work our women and men do during these challenging weather conditions.”

As stronger and more frequent storms impact electric grid operations, Avangrid is making major investments in grid resilience and smart technology to reduce outages, improve response times, and protect against threats posed by flooding and extreme weather.

Avangrid companies have completed several reliability and grid improvement projects in the past six months, including the following:

“Investing in a strong and modern energy grid will ensure we continue to meet the needs of our customers regardless of the weather,” Azagra continued. “The work we do to prepare the grid for storms happens every day, and our grid investment strategy will continue to be top of mind and our top priority.”
