Avangrid Employees Volunteered Over 37,000 Hours in 2024, Exceeding Goal by nearly 50%

Avangrid employees shattered their stated goal of 25,000 volunteer hours and increased volunteering almost 60% compared to 2023

ORANGE, Conn. — Jan. 31, 2024 — The Avangrid Foundation, the philanthropic arm of leading sustainable energy company Avangrid Inc., a member of the Iberdrola Group, announced today that employees volunteered over 37,000 hours last year, shattering the Company’s stated goal of 25,000 volunteer hours in 2024. Avangrid employees have increased their volunteer hours tenfold since 2021 when it began tracking these figures and surpassed its longstanding goal of 35,000 volunteer hours by 2025 one year early.

“This is a remarkable achievement, and I couldn’t be happier for the 8,000 people dedicated to serving their communities while helping power millions of homes and businesses in the Northeast and across the country,” said Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO. “They have raised the bar, growing our volunteer hours by nearly 60 percent compared to last year. I am confident that this work will continue as our employees amplify the positive impact Avangrid has in the communities where we work.”

Avangrid’s employees volunteered in 26 states across the Company’s service and operating areas, supporting 737 organizations with these efforts.

The Avangrid Foundation also helps to amplify employees’ work in their communities through the Energized for Good program. Through this initiative, the Avangrid Foundation donates $15 per employee volunteer hour to qualifying organizations, up to 100 hours per employee. Last year the Energized for Good program  generated more than $341,567 in donations to local nonprofits.

“It’s incredibly gratifying to see the impact our employees have made in our communities through their volunteerism this past year,” said Pablo Colón, director of corporate citizenship and executive director of the Avangrid Foundation. “Through the work of our dedicated volunteers, the Avangrid Foundation is supporting organizations that address food insecurity, housing, education, wildlife, and other critical community needs.”

Last year’s volunteer efforts included the following:

  • Avangrid employees continued their support of the American Red Cross, hosting 11 blood drives across Connecticut, Maine, and New York, collecting over 200 pints of critically needed blood.
  • Recognizing that access to affordable housing remains a critical issue across Avangrid’s service area, 177 volunteers participated in 19 build days with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for deserving families in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Texas.
  • Volunteers organized 57 events last year that focused on food insecurity. More than 577 volunteers worked in food pantries, food banks, urban farms, or other local organizations to address food scarcity in our communities.
  • With a critical need for school supplies in under resourced classrooms, employees collected over 2,300 school supplies to support the Kids in Need Foundation .
  • Over 400 volunteers participated in 47 events with a focus on education, including career fairs, science centers, museums, and supply drives.
