Iberdrola Renewables provides more clean wind power to M-S-R Public Power Agency from Big Horn 2 Wind Power Project

PORTLAND, Ore. — Iberdrola Renewables has executed another long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with M-S-R Public Power Agency for the entire output from its 50-megawatt Big Horn 2 Wind Project about to go into construction near Bickleton, Washington.
M-S-R Public Power Agency, a joint powers agency representing the Modesto Irrigation District, City of Santa Clara and City of Redding, will purchase the wind energy from Portland, Oregon-based Iberdrola Renewables for 25 years to help its members meet their renewable energy goals.
"With this transaction with Iberdrola Renewables for clean renewable wind power, M-S-R Public Power Agency will increase the total percentage of eligible renewable electrical energy delivered to its members from 35 percent to 40 percent," said Martin Hopper, general manager of M-S-R Public Power Agency. "This is an important milestone."

Construction of the Big Horn 2 project, located in Klickitat County, Washington, will begin in the spring of 2010. Energy deliveries to M-S-R Public Power Agency are expected to start in December 2010.
Formed in 1982, M-S-R Public Power Agency provides electrical energy to meet its owner-members' needs where economies of scale can be achieved through joint action rather than individual action such as in large transmission projects and certain power purchase agreements. Power from Big Horn 1 and 2 will travel to M-S-R Public Power Agency members via the California-Oregon Transmission project, a venture initiated by M-S-R.
The Big Horn 2 project is an additional 50 MW for the state of Washington. Iberdrola Renewables now operates 200 MW in Washington and has a portfolio of nearly 3,500 megawatts of wind power currently in operation across the U.S. It is part of Iberdrola Renovables, the largest provider of wind power in the world, with more than 10,000 MW of wind power in operation in 23 countries.
