Wind TurbinesWashington, D.C. — Today, Iberdrola USA attended the White House Summit on Climate and the Road through Paris.

Iberdrola Renewables’ U.S. CEO, Frank Burkhartsmeyer, represented parent company Iberdrola USA at the White House and joined leaders from the government, private sector, academic, technical and scientific communities to focus on cross-sector efforts to tackle the climate change challenge here in the United States as well as on a global scale.

“Iberdrola is the world’s leading wind energy producer, and our U.S. wind fleet is the second largest in the country,” said Burkhartsmeyer. “The Iberdrola companies have committed to cutting our global greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 50 percent by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality in our worldwide operations by 2050. As a leader in clean energy production and industry innovation, we welcome these initiatives to promote a cleaner energy future.”

At the event, Iberdrola USA announced that it has signed the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, joining more than 60 companies from across the American economy that are standing with the Obama Administration to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to climate action and to voice support for a strong outcome to the COP21 Paris climate negotiations.

By signing the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, Iberdrola USA is:

  • Supporting the Paris Climate Summit for a world-wide commitment toward reducing global carbon pollution. (Iberdrola USA’s parent company, Iberdrola, and its chairman, Ignacio Galán, already signed an open letter to world leaders urging them to reach an ambitious agreement at the Paris Climate Summit — Iberdrola Chairman Joins Global CEOs Urging Ambitious Agreement at Paris Climate Summit.)
  • Pledging to reduce their emissions, increase low-carbon investments, deploy more clean energy, and take other actions to build more sustainable businesses and tackle climate change.
