PORTLAND, Ore. — Sen. Ron Wyden and Rep. Earl Blumenauer Address Local Families at OMSI in Support of Wind Energy Job Growth in Oregon
Free educational event at OMSI to feature high-tech wind farm control center; wind tunnel tests and wild birds from the Gorge
Who & What:
The rapidly growing wind power industry affects thousands of families in the Northwest. Ever wonder how it works? A free educational event at OMSI on Aug. 26 - 27 will answer your questions with live, high-tech demos, encounters with wildlife and much more.
Kicking off the OMSI event, Oregon's senior senator Ron Wyden and Congressman Earl Blumenauer will offer their personal perspectives on the state of renewable energy development and job growth. During the course of two days, thousands of OMSI visitors will encounter wind tunnel experiments, scientifically measure the wind speeds along the Willamette River and meet wild birds from the Columbia River Gorge.
Hosted by Iberdrola Renewables, a Portland-based wind farm developer, this free event is an opportunity for local families to learn about the technology and science that go into developing wind energy.
The event will feature an overview of what makes wind power work, including:
- A mini version of Iberdrola Renewables high-tech control center that monitors everything from weather to wildlife activity all over the country, 24/7
- A real meteorology tower used for field surveys that will measure wind capacity at OMSI's front door
- Rescued raptors from Blue Mountain Wildlife, helping preserve wildlife
- A wind tunnel with mini wind turbine models for testing wind energy generation
At the press conference, interview opportunities are available with:
- Sen. Ron Wyden
- Rep. Earl Blumenauer
- Kevin Lynch, government affairs, Iberdrola Renewables
