Equal Opportunity Supplier Program

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND SUSTAINABLE SUPPLIER PROGRAMS

At Avangrid, our differences include all the dimensions that make each of us one-of-a-kind. We provide equal economic opportunity for suppliers.

Our Equal Opportunity and Sustainable Suppliers Programs strive to build bridges and break down barriers by cultivating knowledge and experiences and connecting suppliers to opportunities, resources, and support they need to make a meaningful impact. As part of this roadmap, we are committed to creating a welcoming environment through fair and competitive business practices, ensuring equal opportunity in the procurement process.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY SUPPLIERS PROGRAM

Avangrid proactively seeks to ensure that all suppliers, including small and disadvantaged-owned businesses, have a fair and equitable opportunity to compete for business. Equal Opportunity emphasizes creating a culture of belonging and respect for our suppliers, where they feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow and succeed.

Small and disadvantaged-owned businesses are companies that have been identified as socially and economically disadvantaged. Examples of these disadvantaged groups include but are not limited to:

  • Person(s) with disabilities
  • Service-disabled veterans
  • Veterans
  • Any other groups whose members are designated as socially and economically disadvantaged by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)

We verify the classification of these groups by reviewing certification or registration by the US SBA, sam.gov, or other recognized agencies (e.g., Disability:IN and National Veteran Business Development Council).

Avangrid's goals for our Equal Opportunity Suppliers Program include:

  • Actively seeking suppliers that can provide competitive, high-quality goods and services whose business model is aligned with our business strategy.
  • To assist businesses in becoming competitive sources of supply through strategies such as education, and supplier sub-contracting.
  • Communicating the value of the Equal Opportunity and Sustainable Suppliers Program internally and externally to all stakeholders.

Avangrid recognizes the positive impact of equal opportunities on our employees, clients, and communities.  We will strive to ensure the participation of socially and economically disadvantaged businesses in our strategic sourcing and procurement processes.

SUSTAINABLE SUPPLIERS PROGRAM

Our suppliers are fundamental to the performance of activities within the Avangrid group and strategic players in the transition toward a decarbonized economy. As such, they are considered business partners. We seek to ensure a fair, transparent, and ethical value chain, and we involve our suppliers from the first contact with the group, always with a proactive attitude toward their needs and supporting them in the development of new capabilities.

Supplier evaluation model

Avangrid is committed to ensuring that 85% of the main collaborating companies are subject to sustainable development policies and standards by 2025. To this end, we have a supplier evaluation model based on Sustainability criteria, which are used globally to measure corporate responsibility in three areas: environmental, social, and governance.

We consider 43 factors to calculate each supplier’s Sustainability score, including human rights compliance, climate change risk management, and circular economy strategy. We also send personalized improvement plans to those suppliers that are not at the appropriate sustainability levels.

At Avangrid, we look for sustainable, transparent, fair, and ethical supplies and suppliers. That's why we evaluate the companies we work with to determine the potential risk during the purchasing process. We also check that their modus operandi is aligned with our group's policies, principles, and responsibilities. Find out about what factors are evaluated for classifying suppliers below.

Avangrid uses GoSupply as a supplier evaluation, classification, risk measurement, and sustainability system. In this cloud solution, suppliers must ensure their information is always up-to-date and periodically review the supporting documentation requested during the registration phase. Incomplete or outdated information can lead to a higher-than-normal risk assessment and a poor sustainability score.

Avangrid's commitments to our communities, people, and the environment make us one of the most sustainable, socially responsible energy companies.
